Standing under the bright lights on stage with eight other contestants, junior Jessie Gallaher nervously awaits the results of the Miss HBHS pagent. Seconds later her name called out and she walks up to be crowned on Saturday, Feb. 18th in the PAC.
“My first thought was oh my gosh I’m totally wearing my crown to go bowling after this,” said Gallaher.
Other awards were handed out at the pagent in addition of Miss HBHS. Audience appeal and Miss Photogenic were given to senior Evan Verucchi, the talent award was given to junior Trina Jude, third runner-up was Veruchhi, second runner-up was junior Hailey Hendrix, and first runner-up was sophomore Kylei Caballero.
Gallaher and seven contestants competed in five categories, one of them optional. The scores were based on an interview, evening gown and business apparel competition, most photogenic, and talent, which was optional.
“I danced for my talent. It was so much fun. I came up with dance myself,” said Verucchi.
Madison Haskins, Janae Ratliff, and Abbi Graham were in charge of producing the event.
“We had to call sponsors to see if they would help and give prizes to the contestants, advertise, do a lot of organizing, and write the script for the night,” said Ratliff, a junior.
Additionally, contestants spent a lot of time preparing for the pageant.
“I looked at questions and thought of good answers, worked on my dance, and got all of my clothes and stuff together,” said Verucchi.
Competing in the pageant was fun, nerve-wracking, and a good experience.
“I didn’t really take it all too serious. I just had fun,” said Verucchi.
