Twitter is the ultimate manipulation machine, especially among the teenage minds. Twitters creation was originally meant just as a way to keep up with friends and for fans to keep track of their celebrities, but has since then evolved.
As of 2011 twitter has 200 million users and and over 200 million messages or “tweets” are sent on a daily basis.
A behemoth like Twitter is some serious in firepower shaping our society.
“Twitter has both a positive and negative impact on our society. Positive because you can tweet between to friends when you are having fun and negative because it opens the door for cyber bullying. My way of thinking has also been changed because sometimes people post on twitter they normally wouldn’t say in person,” said Sophmore Riegen Anderson.
“Twitter has changed our society due to the faster exchange of information and you can keep up with friends. Twitter is also causing people to become self-absorbed. Twitter also keeps me up to date with news such as the recent earthquakes that have been occurring. I also feel that there should not be an age requirement to create a twitter account. It is up to the person to evaluate if they are responsible enough,” said sophomore Alex Andreadis.
Daniel Brady is also a sophomore who believes that Twitter has caused “hate and anger within society.”
However he feels Twitter has also been very positive for society as well due to it causes to develop better communication skills in 140 characters or less.
Twitter was created in March 2006 and officially launched in July 2006 and only seems to be building up steam. It impacts teenagers all over the world for better and worse.
In what is being called the “Information Age,” Twitter is a prime example of what that means.
