Junior Joshua Hoover was sitting in his fourth hour class. He heard some of his classmates talking about cars being towed in the school parking lot. In a panic, he ran to look out the window. To his surprise, his car was gone.
On Nov. 9, science teacher William Chesser was in the south parking lot slapping warning stickers on vehicles without parking stickers. Dable Mont Body and Corporations towed four cars during lunch.
“I think it’s ridiculous to tow any of our cars when we already pay to go to this school,” said Dalton Clinkscales, a junior whose truck was towed. “They should have gone at it a different way, like detention or something. I understand it’s a policy, and we have to follow it.”
Mr. Chesser gives one warning, but once it gets to three or four, towing will begin.
“I don’t enjoy doing this, many kids think I do but I don’t. I don’t make the policy. I just enforce it. Students should know that this is a privilege to bring their own cars to school,” said Mr. Chesser.
At the beginning of the year, parking stickers are supposed to be purchased for $15. If students make proficient or advanced on End-Of-Course exams the parking pass if half price.
“It is a policy to have the sticker,” said assistant principal Aaron Harris. “It’s a safety issue, so we know who is in the building at all times.”
