“While walking on the field so many things were going through my mind,” said 2008 Har-Ber graduate Morgan Linn. “Mostly I was just hoping and praying that I didn’t trip and fall in my heels, but I was just thinking about how awesome it was that my peers had voted me into the position on homecoming court and how truly blessed I am!”
Linn is currently enrolled in her senior year at the University of Central Arkansas. She is majoring in Psychology with a minor in Family and Consumer Sciences. Linn was recently nominated for queen at UCA. The process of being nominated consists of any organization picking three people from that organization. Throughout the organizations 33 girls were nominated by different organizations, but after a homecoming pep rally eight girls were announced to be the possible homecoming queen.
” The first people that I called were my parents after finding out I made homecoming court. My parents started yelling on the other end of the phone and celebrating,” said Linn.
After being nominated to the Homecoming court, royalty were expected to be in a Homecoming parade. During this parade Linn got to ride in a convertible with car magnets made with her name on them, along with her sorority letters.
Linn is currently president of a sorority Alpha Sigma Tau. Being involved with this sorority allows her to network with many organizations and faculty.
“I think that being able to be in these leaderships positions has helped me branch out and really get to know more people that I would not have had the opportunity to get to know otherwise,” said Linn.
On Saturday, Oct. 29 Linn was escorted on the football field by her dad, Mike Linn. She wore a beautiful purple dress to show school spirit. This night was very exciting and nerve racking. All the candidates had no idea who out of the eight would be crowned Homecoming Queen. The results were kept a secret until halftime of the football game. During halftime the coronation ceremony took place on the football field.
This place is something Linn will never forget. This was the place where she was announced Homecoming Queen.
“When my name was announced for queen my mouth literally dropped open. I couldn’t believe that I had actually won,” said Linn. “I was so excited, and my dad was jumping up and down beside me. It was the best feeling in the world!”
This experience has affected Linn in many ways. She realized that it would have not been possible without the constant support of many sorority, peers, and her family.
“I am so honored to be a representative for our university, and I could not be more thankful,” she said.
Linn’s responsibilities as queen will be to represent the University of Central Arkansas for the next year in a “respectable manner.” She will also be the one who announces the homecoming court next year, and she will have the privilege of crowning the 2012 Homecoming Queen.
“What I learned most from this experience is to be thankful for the people in my life who support me. I cannot thank them enough for helping me develop into the leader and woman that I am today,” she said.
Through it all, the Har-Ber graduate credits her college success to her support system and her involvement in high school.
“Find an organization that you can get involved with in school and really work hard to learn about yourself and serve others. I think the thing I learned at Har-Ber that has helped me prepare the most for college is to be accepting of everyone. My goal in life is to impact people positively, and I feel that this started at Har-Ber.”
