Imagine that you are in the hallway at school. You notice a student, who is unable to walk, giggling hysterically, and giving off the impression that he or she is intoxicated. As you continue to observe, the student crosses the parking lot, opens the driver side door of a car, climbs in, and prepares to drive away.
Potentially harmful or dangerous situations are exactly what resource officer Thomas Wooten is trying to prevent.
“The decisions you make can affect you tomorrow,” said Officer Wooten.
In order for the school to prevent a violent crime, to thwart a drug deal or to prevent underage drinking, Officer Wooten has come up with a tip line for students or parents to call, text, or e-mail whenever they hear something suspicious. This tip line is “not a snitch line” claims Officer Wooten.
By creating this tip line, Officer Wooten is trying to create a better school environment. He is trying to help make the school safer.
According to Officer Wooten, “school safety is not my job alone, it’s the job of the students too.”
Although this tip line is new to the school, it is not new to Northwest Arkansas. Fayetteville High School has had a crime stopper line for several years. Officer Wooten is particularly excited about this new tip line because this is something he has wanted in our school for quite some time now.
