“Third place for Broadcast Journalist of the Year goes to Madison…I started to get up but realized it was not my name but in fact another Madison. The winner for second place was announced and it wasn’t my name and then first place was going to be announced. First place for Broadcast Journalist of the Year goes to Madison Heim, I was shocked! I couldn’t believe it! I wasn’t excepting an award this prestigious,” said senior Madison Heim.
On April 14-15, members of HBWN participated in the Arkansas Scholastic Press Association (ASPA) in Rogers Arkansas at the Embassy Suites. Schools from all over Arkansas participated making the competition very tough.
Heim, adviser Trent Jones, and few other students participated on behalf of TV Broadcasting. Along with TV Broadcasting; Newspaper and Yearbook participated as well. Madison received many other awards, Superior in Broadcast Document, Superior in Original Short Film shared with Jimi-Paige Thomas, Superior in Broadcast News Story shared with Zach Nordin, and Superior in Broadcast Commercial shared with Jimi-Paige Thomas. Also third place for Producer of the Year went to Graham Jordin.
“This is huge to put on a resume. I’m very glad that I got to make my parents and my adviser proud. This is my third year in TV Broadcasting, and I’m going to miss the school a lot. I’m going to miss the family environment and the bond. It’s really comfortable, like my second home,” said Heim.
“Growing up I’ve always wanted to be a weather girl, but after I saw what it was like in front and behind the cameras I realized I really wanted to be behind the cameras,” she said.
Heim is planning to attend the Savannah College of Art and Design in Georgia. She plans on majoring in Film Productions.
“I’m excited to meet new people and ready for all the adventures that are going to come my way. I’m worried about the program there and how well I’m going to adjust,” said Heim.
“From the seven years Mr. Jones has taught I have won the most awards for any individual. Mr. Jones is the reason why I’ve gotten so far. The environment we are in is like the real world. If we don’t meet deadlines, we get in trouble. He has just been a really helpful and supportive teacher,” said Heim.
