Walking into the cafeteria Saturday Dec. 4th at around 6:30 p.m., you would’ve seen two enormous Christmas trees and numerous candlelit tables set up throughout the lunchroom in preparation for the choir’s 5th annual “Candlelight Night.”
Upon arrival, guests were greeted at a desk and checked in.
“It’s almost like being in a 5 star hotel, they even have a little registry,” said senior Barry Fontenot.
After this, members of the choir escorted and seated each party to their table. After a few minutes of chatter, the performances began, which included songs sung by the Bell Canto, Camerata, and Lighthouse choirs, as well as a skit. During these performances, choir members serving as waiters brought out supper to each table.
“There’s a lot of great food, most of which is prepared by Mr.P who didn’t get as much help as he probably could have had,” said Fontenot, “I also liked the atmosphere. They always put up lights and create a nice ambiance.”
The only real complaints came from the choir itself. Several choir members agreed it was cruel that they didn’t get to take part in the eating part of the event.
“I feel jealous when I go because all of your friends, parents, and neighbors get to eat all this awesome food while you just have to sing to them,” said senior Courtney Schaal.
However, the choir members don’t go unrewarded.
“The main purpose is to raise money so that the Camerata singers can go on some hugely expensive trip to sing somewhere,” said Schaal, “Last year they went to Denver and got to ski and snowboard.”
The choir succeeded in producing a night that was enjoyed by many for its food, entertainment, and ambiance.
“It was a nice evening, nice to have all of the families together, great music, and the food was good as well,” said Mike Boekhaus.
