Superheros of every kind filled the halls on Wednesday Oct. 1 as spirit week was well underway. Students dressed for the occasion to portray their school spirit and show excitement for the upcoming cross-town rival football game against Springdale High. This day just so happened to fall on picture day.
The pictures this time of year are not just offered to your parents, but are broadcasted in the yearbook and used for every other type of identification at school. Being a superhero for the day will always be remembered by students who fully committed to dressing up.
Some students chose to embrace it, while others chose to dress in their fancy picture day attire. Junior Claire Lee met these two days in the middle.
“I came to school dressed normally, then after first period when I took my pictures, I changed into my super hero clothes,”said Lee. Many other students also took this route in switching their attire just for their picture.
Even though Lee will not be pictured in the yearbook as a superhero, she thinks that looking back through the yearbook and seeing some students dressed as superheroes will be a “funny memory,” said Lee.
Sophomore Klaire Trainor was committed to staying in superhero disguise the whole day, and wasn’t fazed that it was picture day.
“It was superhero day so why not,” said Trainor.
Dressed in a black Batman suit, nothing but the slits of her eyes showing, Trainor was confident and ready to get her picture made. As it came time to take her picture, the photographer gave Trainor the news that wearing a mask was not allowed, but she didn’t let this slow her down.
“I got the yearbook teacher to text the principal and talk him into it,” said Trainor.
Trainor went on her way for retakes, this time mask included. She is hopeful they will use the photo with her in costume for the yearbook.
“It will be so much fun to look back and see myself in a Batman suit for yearbook pictures,” said Trainor.
Junior Kendall King was not bashful to dress for the occasion either. Even though he felt these two days were poorly planned by being put on the same day, he still believed “the show had to go on.”
Dressed in a full head-to-toe chicken suit, King was ready to take on superhero day. As he made his way to the front of the line, it was time to take the school picture that he will always look back on.
“They couldn’t believe it, they laughed a long time before taking my picture,” said King.
The photographers were astonished by his bravery to dress as a chicken for his school picture. King is very hopeful that they will use the photo for his student ID card.
“Senior ID as a chicken.. that’s just funny,” said King.
