Anniversaries are a time for celebration and excitement, and thatʼs just what students and faculty alike have to look forward to in the upcoming year. This year marks Har-Berʼs ten year anniversary, a decade of excellence, and is sure to bring a year of celebration.
Looking back over the past ten years, we are able to recognize how much Har- Ber has grown and changed. Today we have our own football stadium, tennis, and baseball facilities, something that was only dreamed of when Har-Ber first opened. However, the values and spirit Har-Ber is known for will remain the same.
When the school first opened it was a “small intimate group of teachers and students that gradually grew larger, but the expectations today are still the same,” said Mrs. Anderson. “I value education more today and Iʼm able to see the long term benefits of it,” said Anderson. Mrs. Oliver agreed, saying that she has grown as an educator as Har-Ber has continued to evolve.
Both Mrs. Anderson and Mrs. Oliver have taught at Har-Ber for the full decade it’s been open and were happy to share their favorite memories.
“We only had JV football, and every Monday night a small group of us would go watch the games. We always had a lot of fun,” said Oliver.
“My favorite memory was the first pep rally during our third year when I walked in and noticed that the gym was full. It wasnʼt until then that I realized we were a full school, Har-Ber had arrived,” said Anderson.
From such small beginnings come big surprises, and this year is sure to be full of them. On September 19th, during the first football game in the new stadium, a section will be dedicated to Har-Ber Alumni. The history of HBHS, 2005 through 2014, will be on display, and Dr. Brackett has also lined up dignitaries for the much anticipated opening game. Many more events have been planned and are sure to make this anniversary year one to remember.
This is also a special year for the seniors because they will be the tenth class to graduate from Har-Ber. For some, this may seem like a cause of stress, for others, it is something to be proud of.
“It feels like an honor, weʼve been here for ten years and weʼre still going strong,” said Student Council President and senior Kaitlin Tucker.
With many more anniversaries to go, Har-Ber will continue to be the “Beacon of the West” and the symbol of Wildcat pride to all students, past and present.
