“I noticed them a lot during the day! I like that they didn’t take themselves too seriously,” said junior Olivia Allen, when questioned about the boys wearing the Hawaiian shirts on the first day of school.
This group of guys includes seniors Zack Ownbey, Jacob Williams, Kaleb Pianalto, Luke Pruden, Hunter Hanby, and juniors, Brandon Still, Roper Vitt, Ty Montgomery, Austin Henderson, Justin Weiser. The group passed the idea along through group messages as well as telling their close friends who they thought would join in.
“I like to think it was Jacob and I that started it because we wore these shirts on the beach together,” said senior Zach Ownbey.
Weiser explained that this “planned attire day” helped a large number of these guys as they didn’t have to go through the agony of thinking about or even worrying about (like most girls do) what to wear on the first day. Most guys wearing the vivid floral shirts were able latch onto an idea and make the first day better than average.
After being asked about including this in Spirit Week, Weiser said “it would be fun for Spirit Week because everyone needs to have that “vacation feel” every once in a while, even if it’s at school.”
“I think tacky tourist would be a perfect idea for spirit week since everybody already owns Hawaiian shirts,” said junior Olivia Allen. The spirit week ideas are brought up by student council members and then a vote is taken.
Of course the boys easily agreed to the idea of including girls to this matching attire and Weiser tells of his idea, “All the girls can wear seaweed skirts or whatever they want and then flower leis!”
