Sparkly dresses shimmer in the light, glossy ringlets cascade over spray-tanned shoulders, ankle-breaking heels clack down the floor, and glistening lips pucker for the camera. It’s prom time again.
For organized senior Jasmine Menjivar, Pinterest is very useful when searching for ideas.
“I search for pins on Pinterest that are compatible on what I like, and Pinterest shows a variety of pins that you’re looking for,” said Menjivar. “I think the main inspiration of mine that I learned from Pinterest is anything you can search on the search bar it finds the same exact things you’re looking for, but better, and by that, when I go shopping for prom I know exactly what I need to purchase.”
There are thousands upon thousands of results for “prom” on Pinterest and many students look for a dream dress to match their expectations.
“My favorite thing I have pinned so far is this elegant champagne dress that looks like it belongs in The Great Gatsby. I am so in love,” said junior Heather Martindale.
Pinterest also has easy step-by-step process ideas for makeup and hair.
“It’s useful to me because most pins have websites you can go to and see how to do things. Like if I like a certain hairstyle that I might do for prom I can click the link and it’ll have a tutorial for me to use,” said senior Molly Duong.
Many students have an exclusive board for prom to pin things on to while others keep pins in separate boards like hairs, nails, and dresses.
“I have a special prom board set aside. It’s on private. I’m the only one that can see it because I really don’t want anyone viewing my pins that I repined so they don’t steal my ideas for prom. I know it sounds selfish, but I just want things to go perfect for prom,” said Menjivar.
With Pinterest girls can easily plan their prom experience in a coordinated manner.
“I can show my hair dresser how I want my hair or take a picture of the dress when I go shopping to find that style of dress,” said senior Madison Knipe, “I feel like I can try something new when I see it on Pinterest.”
