With the tension slowly ebbing from her drawn shoulders and a satisfied “ahhhh” escaping her lips, senior Jessica Holloway pressed the enter key for the final time. She wiped the sweat from her brow and fell backward in her chair. Holloway just completed the Free Application for Federal Student Aid, the FAFSA.
“I am doing the FAFSA so that I won’t become completely dependent on loans that I will have to pay back later,” said Holloway. The requirement to fill out the forms are records of income earned the year prior to when you will start school. Records of your parents income information are needed if you are a dependent student. If it is 2013-2014, you will need the information from 2012, social security number or registration papers, any banking information such as investments or savings, and welfare benefits.
“My mom fills it out for my sister, and I so it’s not difficult for me but it is a lot to fill out,” said senior Jamie Abbott. The application process must be filled out and entered online and is accepted nationally. It helps with local scholarships, grants, and loans.
“I plan to go to a tech school for teaching and now that I have gotten some information, I plan to fill it out,” said senior Scot Barket.
The federal deadline is June 30, 2013 and any corrections must be made by Sept. 24. The state deadline for Arkansas Academic Challenge Scholarship is June 1, and the work force grant is up to the administrator.
“I would encourage anyone who needs assistance to attend college go on Sunday, March 10,” said counselor Lisa Salisbury. Many other helpful things will be available and all the counselors update information weekly on the school website.
