Scrolling through Pinterest and Instagram, senior Tiffany Thompson gets her inspiration and ideas for nail design.
“I just do it for dances like homecoming or prom, or if they just want their nails done they’ll just ask me to do them,” she said.
Thompson has been doing nails for approximately two years, and it takes her from 30 to 45 minutes. For inspiration, Thompson also follows on Instagram Nikki’s Nails, whose work can be seen at Fancy Nails in Fayetteville.
Sophomore Xiomara Caldera gets her nails done at KT nails in Fayetteville near the mall and started doing so when she turned fifteen last year.
“It’s trendy to do something right now on your ring finger and I like rhinestones,” said Caldera with a smile as she looks at her deep blue nails and her sparkling ring finger.
Some students prefer to do their own nails and only their own.
In the beginning of summer junior Janet Garcia began to do her nails more artistically. Garcia does her nails twice a week and gets her inspiration from cartoons, unique things, the galaxy, and mascots. Garcia has even done the school mascot as a design. Depending on the design and how focused Garcia is, it takes her from one to two hours to do her nails.
“I’ve been getting a lot of compliments. A lot of people said I should do their nails, but it’s just a hobby,” said Garcia.
Junior Nereida Mendoza gets acrylics about every month at New York Style on Emma Street. She has them filled about every two weeks and has been getting her nails done since she was eleven. Mendoza enjoys getting mostly cheetah and zebra print on her nails. She also gets a different length than most.
“It’s not super long, but it’s longer than usual nails,” said Mendoza.
Whether it is a hobby or a job, students creatively design their nails for self-expression, to be trendy, or just for fun.
