Senior Chase Kinne picks up his phone off the ground only to find that his iPhone back has been shattered. He rolls his eyes in disappointment, knowing the expense it takes to fix an iPhone through Apple.
“The first time I broke the back of my phone I was so mad,” said Kinne. “I thought it was going to cost a bunch of money to fix it.”
Thankfully, he did not have to pay the outrageous price to fix his phone through the company due to the fact that students at school have learned how to fix the glass phones themselves.
“I learned how to fix iPhones three years ago when I broke my own phone,” said senior Mason Thomason. “Apple wanted a crazy price so I learned from my friend, and it was a lot cheaper.”
Thomason charges $50 for fixing a shattered screen while Apple’s fees for repair work can add up to over $100.
Not only do some students repair screens, they also can change the color of the phone too. The price varies depending on the generation of the iPhone, the color change the customer desires, and the quality.
Seniors Hunter Main and Ricky Paine were some of the first students to learn the process of fixing an iPhone. They work together to help students with their technology.
“I’m glad Hunter taught me how to fix them because not only are you helping people, but there’s also a lot of profit,” said Paine.
Although it may seem that these students have an easy job, there is a risk each time they fix one of the phones.
“iPhone screws are very small so if you use the wrong tools, you can easily strip the screws,” said Main. “I’ve been doing this for three years, so I have a good amount of experience, unlike others, to be able to fix the phones without problem.”
