Lights. Camera. Action. Senior Ashley Duckworth starts rolling on her short film. Duckworth started making films sophomore year.
“I’ve always had a love for the entertainment industry but until I got to Har-Ber I wanted to be an actress,” said Duckworth. “I took a film class and immediately fell in love.”
Duckworth makes all different types of films. She makes news packages, short emotional films, and everything in between. Her favorite type of film to make is a short film.
“I like to have fun and experiment with the different camera shots and angles so short films are the majority of what I make,” said Duckworth.
Duckworth makes her films with friend Sarah Smith. They have worked together since sophomore year.
“Our personalities work well together,” said Duckworth.”What I don’t want to do she will and vise versa.”
Duckworth is currently in a program taught by Trent Jones across town in the old Jones TV building. She took a film program at the school for two years.
“This program is more news-based and acts more like a job than the school program,” said Duckworth. “You have deadlines that will not change. I teaches you that you can’t always have more time. It’s more stressful because of that but at the same time it makes you feel accomplished.”
Duckworth wants to have a career in film and believes the program she is in will help her with her future. Film means a lot to her.
“To me film means many things. Film is almost indescribable. It’s just life. You can make anything and do anything with the magic of movie making,” said Duckworth. “You can make something so realistic that it moves people or you can make something fictional like magic, mythical, creature, and dreams come to life and seem almost as if you could believe it’s real. Film can move people if you do it right. You can manipulate things and create a whole new world that can’t even possibly exist.”
