On top of the stress from All-Region Choir tryouts, senior Alex Dudley had the stress of getting to a concert of her favorite band, Breathe Carolina. Dudley left All-Region tryouts early under the pretenses of “going to a competitive soccer game” so that she could get to the concert on time.
Breathe Carolina is made up of two members, David Schmitt and Kyle Even, but Dudley can’t pick a favorite.
“That’s like asking a mother who her favorite child is,” she said.
The concert was entirely worth leaving tryouts early for. Not only did Dudley meet them for the second time with seniors Sydney Black and Kaylin Hansen, but she also was front row.
“Kyle swiftly walked over to me and handed me his water bottle. I fan-girled everywhere,” said Dudley.
The group also performed at Vans Warped Tour, but this show was more of a full concert. The group had more energy and more time to perform their songs. At one point in the show, the group played “The Birds and the Bees,” a song off of their first album, “It’s Classy, Not Classic”.
“Meeting them was my favorite part. They’re really nice and I don’t even know what to say,” said Black. The girls are still fan-griling over the experience. Fan-girling is the act of loving something like a band or actor a lot.
Black, Dudley, and Hanson also met the group at Warped Tour as well, along with senior Megan Hanson. At the Tulsa show last Saturday, the trio waited in line for two hours in the cold so that they’d have good seating, which paid off when Kyle gave Dudley his used water bottle.
In November, Dudley will be seeing All Time Low in Dallas with Megan Hanson.
“Hopefully I will be able to meet them,” says Dudley. She also plans to attend Warped Tour again next summer.
Fan-girling can be an especially exciting pastime when it pays off and one meets the object(s) of their fan-girl obsession.
