The dark night settled around the couple as they slow danced on the pitcher’s mound on an empty baseball field. Senior Alyssa Toney’s boyfriend started to sing “Mama’s Song” by Carrie Underwood, and her eyes started tearing up.
“It was really romantic. We’re both baseball fans and he plays, so it was just perfect for us,” said Toney.
After a year and half together the couple spent their Valentine’s Day with a dinner of burgers and a secret trip to the ball park. Afterwards Toney gave her boyfriend from Bentonville a new phone back in the school colors of the college where he will play college baseball.
“It was such a big surprise, and he came up with it all by himself,” said Toney.
Not only did this couple get a romantic filled evening, but so did junior couple Dalton Clinkscales and Ellie Williams. After seven months together Clinkscales picked up his date around 6 p.m. to take her to a candlelit dinner at Chick-Fil-A. With white tablecloths and the room lit only by the flickering candle light, it felt like a fancy restaurant, minus the cost.
“I love Chick-Fil-A and I didn’t want to go to an expensive fancy restaurant,” said Williams. “The way it was set up really made it feel romantic and like we were somewhere fancy!”
After the candlelit evening Williams gave Clinkscales candy and a bear before the spent the rest of the evening spending quality time together.
“It was the best date we could of possibly had for Valentine’s Day,” said Williams.
For sophomore Braxton Jester and his girlfriend Emily Siemens, the night was more than romantic. They took a trip to Siemens’ favorite restaurant, Olive Garden for an Italian feast, before going to see “The Vow.” After 14 months together, Braxton knew how to make his girlfriend happy.
“I got her flowers and a big stuffed bear holding a heart. I know she loves Italian, so I had to give her that and of course she couldn’t stop talking about ‘The Vow’ so I knew she would love this date,” said Jester.
It didn’t take him long to come up with an idea for a perfect evening. All he had to do was think of what his girlfriend loves. His favorite part was just being able to spend some time alone at dinner with Siemens.
“It was great when we got to eat just us two alone. It’s probably the best date we’ve ever had,” said Jester.
Each girlfriend in the situation ended up extremely happy after their Valentine’s Day romance, and expect more for their next dates.
“We guys will have to step it up next time. The girls will be expecting more out of us,” said Jester.
