As a senior’s high school volleyball career comes to a close, another opportunity starts. On National Signing Day, senior Summer Morgan recently signed with the University of Arkansas to play volleyball.
Morgan has emerged as an important prospect for some colleges across the country. But, not all that talent can come from physical preparation. It has to be laid out all on the floor through dedication, knowledge, and the grit to keep playing hard. You have to do that to reach the next step in any sport.
Morgan’s story begins when her seventh grade basketball coach got the idea to get her to learn about volleyball for the first time.
“My seventh grade basketball coach asked me of I knew about the sport. I said ‘No.’ She immediately got me into the gym,” she said.
Ever since, Morgan has climbed the ladder and found her way into a good Division 1 school. She has always had the desire to play for the University of Arkansas. She explained what she thought before being recruited by Arkansas.
“I did not know if I was capable,” she said. “When I got the scholarship, it was kind of surprising to me. I was being recruited by West Virginia and Tennessee-Chattanooga for volleyball.”
Even though Morgan is great at volleyball, she is also skilled at track and basketball. As a three sport athlete, Morgan was faced with the possibly she could of even got a basketball or track scholarship. She was actually leaning for a basketball scholarship since she thought the scouts were looking at her to play basketball.
“Actually, I planned on getting a basketball scholarship,” she said. ” I played AAU basketball. I thought about doing high-jump for their track team, but with volleyball and classes, I do not know if I would have the time.”
As days pass on, the day draws more and more near for Morgan to finally put on Razorback red. Though she is graduating in May, everyone is happy she came from the Har-ber blue.
