Junior Ricardo “Richi” Ramirez uses his free time to create fantastic works of art using spray paint.
Richi loves the freedom and sense of comfort he obtains while painting. He says painting makes him “feel like I have no rules” and like “I am at home”.
Richi’s interest in art began in elementry school when he would watch his father create small sketches. However he did not get in touch with his artistic abilities until middle school when he took the art classes offered by his school. He was introduced to the exciting medium of spray paint by a video shown by George Junior High’s Coach Downum.
Several students are familiar with Richi’s work. In fact Richi relies heavily on the input of his peers during the creative process. He is extremely open to the constructive criticism of his Facebook friends as well as his older sister Jessica because he believes it allows for improvement.
Junior Ublando Marquez says ” His art is awesome. It blows my mind every-time.”
One can easily relate to Ublando’s remark when viewing Richi’s vibrant and imaginative paintings.
Richi typically uses poster-board as a canvas. However, he says that any smooth surface will suffice. Depending on the intricacies involved, a painting takes about forty minutes to complete. Although he wishes his schedule allowed him to work more often Richi paints about once every other week. Richi hopes to use his artistic abilities in order to one day have a career as either a tattoo or freelance artist.
Even if he does not pursue one of these careers Richi feels art will always remain an integral part of his life.
