After reading The Help, I was quite sure no one could make a movie that would even come close to the truth and the vibrant characters of the book.
How could someone recreate such a wonderful story with out coming short of the book? I was proved wrong. “The Help” will make you laugh, make you cry, and make you wonder why our society was ever so confused.
“The Help” is set in the late 1960s in Jackson, Alabama. The main focus is on two black maids, Aibileen Stewart and Minny Jackson. The two maids work for Jackson’s elite rich families and raise the white families’ children. Everyone is in their place until Skeeter, a white woman from a well-to-do family, tries to get Aibileen’s view on being a maid. Skeeter breaks social and Jim Crowe laws to interview maids to write a book.
“The Help” was a sure tearjerker and made even the most emotionless people cry. Looking around the theater at my fellow softhearted crybabies gave me some odd relief. Tissues and popcorn lined the floor and sadness clung to the air.
It was amazing to realize how lucky we are to have such a accepting society, and how we still had racism only 50 years ago.
The movie is a great way to show younger generations what history was like. It makes it interesting and gives people a reason to be grateful for society today. I would recommend “The Help” to anyone looking for an interesting, historical, and dramatic movie.
