When you have the writer from “Ocean’s Twelve”, co-writer from “The Bourne Ultimatum,” you know that any movie is going to be extraordinary. There was no surprise when it came to “The Adjustment Bureau,” truly an action packed love story starring Matt Damon, Emily Blunt, and Anthony Mackie.
A unique story set in a political backdrop, David Norris (Damon) is a young politician running for senator of New York. A photograph of a bar brawl eliminates his chances of winning. He then goes to the hotel bathroom to practice his speech and has an encounter with a mysterious woman who inspires him to just simply be himself.
The story then proceeds to introduce yet another mysterious character Harry (Mackie) sitting on a bench at the park ordered to keep an eye on Norris and making sure he spills his coffee but he is unsuccessful. Norris rides the bus to work and sees the mysterious woman he met in the hotel bathroom Elise (Blunt) again this time making sure to get her number.
He arrives at the office, sees his colleagues frozen and is being checked out by these men. He then gets to know about the Adjustment Bureau, who has his life planned out. He is threatened that if even by accident he says something about encounter he will be reset. They also telling him that his meeting with Elise was also coincidental and he is never to come in contact with her. Norris who is already in love with Elise is keen to find her.
Love stories usually have an expected ending, but it’s rather interesting to see the events building up to their union in this film. The film had suspenseful and surprising scenes.
As confused as Norris seemed when he learned exactly what the Adjustment Bureau was, it seemed that the audience was confused just a much. The chemistry between Damon and Blunt was intriguing. Damon’s performance was worth praise, the way he portrayed his character, a politician, in love was remarkable. This is definitely a movie to see even if you can’t catch it in theatres.
