“Secret Millionaire” season two premieres March 6 on ABC.
“Secret Millionaire” has a unique concept; every week there is a millionaire who leaves behind his life of luxury to be a part of a less privileged community. The millionaire then goes on to find an individual he or she thinks is a “hero.”
They tell the people of the community that they are shooting a documentary. They are required to live on low budget as well. Most of these millionaires are leaving their surroundings for the first time, but by the end they will have donated at least $100,000 if not more.
When I watched the first season, the show was completely different than what I had expected. I didn’t think that it was possible for the millionaires to spend a week away from their surroundings, and I didn’t think that they would really be able to adapt to a different lifestyle.
I was proven wrong. These millionaires understood the people around them and tried to help ease the pain by talking to them.
What I really liked was how the millionaires actually spent time with the people of the community instead of just actually handing them the money. What I disliked about the show was that it seemed to emphasize the importance of money and how money is everything.
This show is just remarkable in a sense that they help one person, but through that one person they help thousands.
The millionaires also get a life changing experience. The pilot episode for season one featured Gurbaksh Chahal, a multi-millionaire entrepreneur. He said “This made me realize that giving is actually better than receiving and that is the biggest success for me.”
