After Midnight Project was founded in Los Angeles, California in 2004. However, the band did not release their first full length album, Let’s Build Something To Break, until 2009.
While their songs retain the same feel to them, they seem to be split between the music they want to make. They seem like two different bands throughout the album, one that is a pure rock band and one whose songs are deeper in meaning and slower.
The first three tracks on the album keep to the same sound and style, but then the song “Take Me Home” shows off their second distinctive sound . They break away form the style of music that they were previously playing and sing a song that is meaningful.
The next stand out track, “Fighting My Way Back,” is the last song they preform solely with this second sound of theirs. Right from the beginning, it is clear that this song is the song they put their hearts and souls into. From the piano to the drums to the vocals, it is the first heartfelt song on the album.
The final song on the album, ” The Criminal,” combines both of their sounds to give the greatest song on the album. It shows all of their potential and all of the room they have to grow for their follow-up album. The song takes you on a roller-coaster ride, going from its haunting intro straight into a loud guitar solo, then changing into a truly sad song.
After Midnight Project might not know exactly the type of music they are going to create, but it’s because of this that they are better than the vast majority of new bands out there.
