“’We want to win, we want to win’ is the Wildcat cheerleaders’ main thoughts walking into the first cheer competition of the season,” said junior cheerleader Lindsay Jansen. The first competition resulted in first place girls 7A and Grand Champions overall girl squad. The Wildcat cheerleaders walked out of the competition with a gigantic trophy and the status of Grand Champs.
“Our hard work is paying off as a team and we can’t wait to see where our dedication takes us,” said junior cheerleader Jade Nash. Nash has been cheering for about ten years and is a part of the school cheer team. The cheer team is working together with great preparations to take on each competition weekend.
“The team works hard, practices a lot, and try our hardest to cheer every Friday night,” said Nash.
The competition season is now in full swing. All year’s work put in by the cheerleaders comes down to their routines and performances.
“We were a little nervous since this was our first time preforming the routine, but winning gave the team a huge confidence booster,” said senior cheerleader Layne Winn.
A long path is in the cheer team’s past to have made it to the Grand Champ status they are at now. Junior cheerleader Kacey Sanders tells how at the beginning of the year the cheerleaders had to start off as coming together to become a great team.
A lot of hard work has been put into making this cheer team.
“The team has morning practices, after school practices, and in class practices every single day,” said Nash.
To improve the team, the cheerleaders continue to put in their hard work and dedication, which will prove their greatness. Jansen explains how the team practices more and is working hard so they can improve to win state.
“We run our tumbling and routines as much as we can so as a team we will perfect anything and everything we can,” said Sanders.
Along with the physical work for improvements, the cheer team works also on their teamwork.
“To win we have to be a family, support each other, and help each other,” said Jansen.
From all these practices the cheer team won their first competition. Nash found the first win as a “relief” to the team.
Jansen found the win to be “awesome and exciting”.
“It was just really exciting because there was a lot of good teams at the competition. We tried our hardest and the results reflected that,” said Sanders.
Winning Grand Champions is the not peak of the mountain for the cheer team. The competition season will continue on with the competition at Hot Springs and the competition against rival Springdale High School.
Winn looks to the future of the cheer team and she believes the dedication of the team will bring greater wins.
“As a team we will make our routine harder and we will win state,” said Winn.
The Wildcats are very, very proud of the cheerleading team as they continue to work extremely hard and take the competitions with unbeatable cheer.
