In the midst of it all, I believe in humanity.

I believe that people will always have a bit of truth within them that tugs their hearts in the right direction. No matter what, people have the ability to stop and listen, even if they do not believe in the argument of the other person. That ability to listen is founded in an innate respect that humans should feel for their fellow humans, regardless of gender, preference, race, religion, or beliefs.

I believe that a torn country can be healed with simple kindness. I believe that all people are capable of extending a hand to the person next to them, if only because it is the right thing to do.

I believe in the importance of humility. If we all humbled ourselves before one another, and said “you know what, you might be right” instead of living in the ignorance that is breeding in this country, and we realized that we’re all equal in the eyes of God, we could only improve.

I believe in God’s plan for this country. I believe that He hand-picked who would lead us at the beginning of time, when He laid out his plan for the world. Regardless of what happens in Trump’s time as president, God will still be glorified.

I believe in the power of respect. No human is any better or any worse than anyone else- it is our own internal battles with our own sins of judgement that make us rank people in our minds. The truth is that everyone is simply a person with loads of crap and loads of potential. It is how we view those around us that will determine what happens to the humanity in this country.

But in the midst of rioting, judging, harassing, fighting, worrying, insulting, and protesting, I believe in humanity.

I have to believe in humanity, because as we descend into a world of people that give little care to anyone but themselves, it is all I have left to keep us together.
