Springdale, AR, November 1, Hour with a Hero
The Hour with A Hero Veterans Day event took place in the Performing Arts Center at Har-Ber High School during six class periods throughout Veterans Day, Thursday, November 11, 2010 beginning at 8:45 a.m., concluding at 4:00 p.m. The event was held to honor all the men and women that have served and who are presently serving our country. Har-Ber EAST students collaborated with the history department in making posters saying thanks to the Veterans. The EAST students advertised and promoted the event weeks in advance. In addition, they created decorations, invitations, presentations, video and photo documentation of the 5th annual Hour with a Hero event. Furthermore, the students prepared speeches and introductions of the distinguished Veteran guests. The Marine Corp Color Guard was invited guest to present the colors. Each Veteran Hour with a Hero guest was presented a plaque and certificate thanking them for their service. In addition, all Veteran guests in attendance were presented with a certificate thanking them for their service. Approximately 1800 students at Har-Ber were in attendance, throughout the day.
The following six Veterans were selected as the 2011 “Hour with a Hero” honorees: Gary Jackson, United States Air force; CDR Nancy Williams, United States Navy; Walter Morton, United States Marines; Darrel J. Ankeny, United States Air Force; Dr. Jesse Coker, United States Army and Thomas E. Easley, United States Air Force. Each of the Veterans had a specific hour in which they were the guest speaker for each hour. The Veteran’s each included their own videos, pictures, and artifacts relating to their personal experience. Video footage of personal military rescues was shown as well as photos pertaining to the Veteran’s mission.
