This year Mrs. Hill, the personal finance teacher, as well as Mrs. Dickard who teaches banking, both received grants to fund the stockmarket game, in which students will compete this coming Spring.
“Every year I apply for a grant from Economics Arkansas. They sponsor a teacher grant program. This is the 4th year I’ve written a grant proposal,” said Mrs. Hill.
Each grant will provide both teachers with $750 to fund the stockmarket game, as well as cover a fieldtrip to Little Rock, where students will have the opportunity to listen to various speakers and also visit the Clinton Library.
“The trip costs about $550 in transportation fees,” Mrs. Hill said.
The stockmarket game started out simply as a part of Mrs. Hill’s and Mrs.Dickard’s curricula. However now, anyone interested in playing the game, can join the stockmarket club.
“We usually have anywhere from 70-80 students playing the game. There is both a Spring competition and a Fall competition,” said Mrs. Hill.
The Spring session starts at the end of February. Any students interested in playing in the stock market game can sign up and form their teams at the meeting on Feb 8th.
“It doesn’t cost anything to join, or even to play, because of the grant. I’ve never had anyone really regret joining, it’s a lot of fun,” said Mrs. Hill, “Anyone can play, you don’t need any experience. We’ll teach you everything you need to know.”
