“Take State”, is a simple phrase, but the actual duty of doing so is not not simple in any sport. State Champions is what all sports teams strive and dream to be.
Saturday, Nov. 8 the Silver Stars will travel to Alma, AR to try and reach the goal they have been practicing for all year. The Silver Stars are taking four routines to state, they will compete in the Jazz, High Kick, Hip Hop, and Pom divisions against fellow 7A schools.
“We’ve added a lot more practices, and I’ve been trying to keep the girls motivated after a lot of practices it’s easy to get tired of dance so I just remind the girls why we are practicing so hard,”said junior officer Sydney Steele.
Nov. 8 has been the pure motivation for the tiring morning, afternoon and sometimes weekend practices that the Silver Stars have been putting in.
“We have good and bad practices just like any team but my role has been to push the girls through practices and remind them that hard work will pay off,” said junior Skyler Mounce.
The outcome of the state competition is up to a panel of judges, you get one chance to do your best, and perform the two minute routine you’ve been working on all year.
“The most nerve racking part of competitions is knowing all of your hard work goes into a two minute performance that you have to show everything you’ve worked on in those two minutes,” said junior Madelyn Maestri.
Pre performance nerves waiting to be called on seem to be the worst.
“We make sure our hair is secured and won’t fall out, we go over the dance a million times in our heads,” said Mounce.
Final touches and practices are in full swing as the Silver Stars are taking every opportunity to prepare for the most important competition of the year.
“Our goal as a team is just to give our best performance on Saturday. We’ve really put in all the practice and I hope everyone can see that,”said Steele.
The silver stars came out 4th in the state, placing 2nd in kick, 4th in hip hop, and 5th place in the jazz division and also pom.
