The complete list of 7A-West football awards was published for the public on December 8. All of the preceding All-State and All-Conference players were chosen by the league coaches.
Offensive newcomer of the year: Trey Smith, sophomore
All-state defensive lineman: Rickey Dobbins, senior
First-team all-conference running-back: Luke Hannon, junior
First-team all-conference offensive lineman: Quentin Chastain, senior
Second-team all-conference offensive lineman: Jaime Ceballos, senior
Second-team all-conference defensive lineman: Luke Allen, senior
Second-team all-conference linebacker: Zach Ownbey, senior
Second-team all-conference defensive back: Brady Patrick, junior
“I’ve had a great experience this football season. I’ve learned from the mistakes I’ve made and I definitely have become more tough physically and mentally. My goals for next year are to get stronger and faster and to get farther into the season then we did last year”, says Smith.
Smith proves himself to be extremely dedicated and deserving of his new title, “offensive newcomer of the year”, due to the time he spends training and the fact that he works out every day.
“It is time consuming during the season, definitely have to give up some things and make it a top priority, but it’s worth it if you love the game,” says Smith.
Amongst many others of the award recipients, Hannon felt “honored to be on that list with so many of the best players this season in the 7A West.” The honor was a surprise to many of the recipients, although the feeling of recognition to all their hard work could not have been sweeter.
“Har-Ber football to the players is more than a game, but we learn how to work and become better men. Football one day will end, and life will move on, so these coaches are preparing us for football as well as the challenges life will throw at us. The goal is always a state championship every year for Har-Ber. You can’t talk about contenders without mentioning us. Personally, I’d like to make all state and attempt to make a ‘run’ at top rusher Har-Ber has ever had in a career,” says Hannon.
Hannon is just 1200 yards off the record and ran a total of 1500 yards this last season. He has begun training with Coach Hall twice a day in order to get faster and stronger in his legs and will be competing with Har-Ber track in the Spring on top of lifting with his football team three days a week in the mornings.
“Off season is the worst waking up at 5:00am, but it is all worth it. Nothing like playing under the lights on a Friday for Har-Ber,” says Hannon.
