The last four quarters of football to be played at a high school level took place Nov. 14 for this years seniors. These final 48 minutes closed a final chapter, and opened a new one for many of this years football senior guys. The play-off game against Bryant ended in a heartbreaking final score of 28-27. Thus, ending many boys high school football careers.
Senior Quarterback Caleb Daniels has been playing football for six years, and didn’t realize Friday night would be his last time to play.
“I didn’t know it was my last time to play high school football, but whenever the game was over was when it hit me. It was just bitter sweet and awful the way it ended,” said Daniels.
Nevertheless, Daniels loved every minute of it.
“Being a part of the Har-Ber football team has been a great experience knowing I have made new friends and a bond with my teammates,” said Daniels.
Since football is over for Daniels, he plans on finding the right college for himself, but he still has some advice for upcoming seniors.
“Cherish every moment of your senior season from the practices to the games, they will be the best memories of your life,” said Daniels.
Senior linebacker Jake Allen has been playing football since he was 8 years old, and found his last game to be bittersweet as well.
“Knowing it was my last game was sad because I have spent 6 years with all my brothers and for it to be the last game together was hard to accept,” said Allen.
No matter the records of this season, Allen was more than content with his team. “I’m proud no matter what the record was because football is more than numbers, it’s about life, said Allen.
Allens favorite memory may have been Coach Haneys words of wisdom, but the senior walked out of the program with much more than words.
“Being a part of the Har-Ber football team for three years was just like being with one big family. We all had each others backs no matter what, we sweated, and bled together. We never gave up, we kept fighting together,” said Allen.
Allens future no longer consists of football, but graduating and attending diesel technology school, to one day pursue a career in that. However, he as well has advice for upcoming seniors.
“Give it your all next year, never give up, and cherish what time you have left with your brothers,” said Allen.
Senior fullback Jacob Williams has been in a helmet and football pads since he can remember, due to his grandfather being Jarrel Williams. Unlike his fellow seniors, Williams didn’t find his last game to be so sentimental, not until a few days later at least.
“Well honestly it didn’t really sink in that football was over until we got to 7th period the next Monday, and we had to turn our stuff in for the last time. Sad feeling knowing a major part of your life is over,” said Williams.
He too, was more than satisfied with the turnout of this year’s team.
“I couldn’t have been more proud of our season. No one in the state expected us to make it to the playoffs, but we busted our butts and proved them wrong. We might not have been the best team, but we played harder than any team out there,’ said Williams.
Like Allen, Williams refers to his team as his family, hating them at times, but them having your back when you need it. Williams also, did have one particular favorite moment.
“I think my best memory from Har-Ber football was my sophomore year, we had a dance off after lifting weights. We’re no dancers that’s for sure,” said Williams.
After graduating, his plans are to attend college, and stay out of trouble. However, his wise words are something upcoming seniors should listen too.
“Live it up, because it goes by in the blink of an eye, said Williams.
