On Jan. 5, Springdale Har-Ber offensive tackle, Brey Cook participated in the Under Armour All-American Game. Cook, along with Springdale offensive tackle Mitch Smothers, and Shiloh Christian quarterback Kiehl Frazier.
The three Springdale natives made the city of Springdale, Ark. tied with Miami, Flor. for the most Under Armour All-Americans in the country.
This is a staggering statistic, considering the population of the city of Springdale compared to the rest of the nation.
In the game, Cook and Smothers led the white team on a drive to give them a 21-20 lead, after an unsuccessful 2-point conversion attempt, leaving a little under two minutes in the game.
Unfortunately for Cook, Smothers, and the rest of the white team, that was too much time for the red team, and their quarterback, Shiloh’s Kiehl Frazier. Frazier went on to lead the red team down the field for a field goal as time expired, to give the red team a 23-21 victory.
The Springdale natives all played key roles in how each team performed. Smothers was the only starter between the three, and played both guard and center. Cook played right guard in the game and both were on the line with the white team on the final drive. Frazier split time with two other quarterbacks on the red team, but got the call with the game on the line, due to his experience playing in big games (3 State Championships).
All three Springdale natives proved their worth in the All-America Game, that Springdale is always going to be relevant in the high school football sports world.
