The Act is an American, true crime series on the streaming service, Hulu. The show follows the story of Gypsy Rose Blanchard, and her mother Dee Dee Blanchard, and the event that led up to a murder.
I had heard little about the case of Gypsy Rose, but I knew the basis of it before the series started airing. The story is quite interesting, and it is definitely something I encourage others to learn about.
In all, I like the series quite a bit. The main reason, I feel, is because I find the story extremely intriguing. Without giving too much of the plot away, I find the dynamics of the two main characters insane.
Joey King and Patricia Arquette do a phenomenal job at playing Gypsy and Dee Dee, and they are able to portray the characters in a seemingly flawless way. I feel like I am actually watching a mother and daughter interact.
The show is set up like many other true crime series, with seeing the crime at the beginning and then progressively leading up to it the rest of the series, and then the aftermath. This setup is definitely how I like crime series to be. It gives the audience a chance to guess at where it all went wrong even if someone already has heard of the crime that took place.
Many of the events that are reenacted offer the watcher a chance to give their own opinions on how the real case concluded. All in all, I like true crime stories, and this one was done extremely well.
