The only time I’ve ever read anything by Edgar Allan Poe was in the tenth grade, and honestly, I didn’t exactly understand his confusing word choice and grotesque imagery.
But in “The Raven,” I immediately wanted to read everything he’s ever written. With the amazing cast of John Cusack (Edgar Allan Poe), Luke Evans (Detective Fields) and Alice Eve (Emily Hamilton) this movie is well worth seeing.
The opening scene gives the audience a five day time span, which is set up five days before Edgar Allan Poe dies. This is something that has never been recorded and no one know what really happened in his last few days.
The plot is about a psycho killer who is either a fan of Poe’s literally work or mocking it completely. The psycho killer is recreating Poe’s finest work after he has captured the love of Poe’s life. He left the British police in a frenzy and Poe realized how his work really is portrayed.
The story line is riveting, and in all honesty, it’s brilliant. It’s a little grotesque, but then again, it wouldn’t be a Poe without it. There are a few startling scenes and quite a few bloody bodies so be ready. It’s definitely a must-see if you like Poe’s work or if you just want to see a well done movie.
