The real reason har-ber isn’t as big as it was supposed to be.

It’s no secret that even though Har-Ber is a giant school we lack a lot of room for staff as well as other things. Well I’m here to let you know exactly why that is.

In the state of Arkansas a school district has to get approved every year for school plans or state plans for facilities. The way they are funded for school plans stems off of a ten year plan and how the schools are set up. Right now the district is set up as Pre-K through fifth grade, middle school which is sixth and seventh, junior high as eighth through ninth, and highschool as tenth through twelfth. Now Har-Ber is one of the high schools in the Springdale District. When Har-Ber was being built it had what is referred to as a “full master plan”. But, due to financial constraints, a lot of what was intended to be added to Har-Ber wasn’t. This is where what we call the “suicide doors” come in. There was always the question of why there were doors on the second floor that led to nothing. Many made up theories, some smart and logical, others not so much. Mr. Griep even stated he thought that they were or could be used as accessible points during a fire or emergency. Now we know what they were really intended for. So, yes there was supposed to be a third floor. Now, the question is will they ever add on to Har-Ber when there is enough time and money in the budget? Dr. Cleveland says, “not that he knows of now, anything can change overtime”. He also stated how decisions are made in the education system and that it is not based solely on him or other administrators but within the people of the community as well. If they see that  people want more added to Har-Ber or in fact another school in the district then they would find ways to make that happen. So if you feel as though we should start adding on to our school you know who to contact. Now, with that information we are now able to answer other questions. Like why all teachers don’t have their own classroom or why some staff have closets as offices and etc. I feel as though even with the lack of space in the school we have managed to still graduate some very great students and create a good environment for those who attend Har-Ber High School.
