I’m not going to look back on high school and think about the fact that I had four papers due by the end of that one week, or the test that I failed in your AP World class. The people that I walk through the halls with and help me get through those bad grades and stressful times are what make the memories that stick.
Some friends are made by meeting people on teams or maybe through other people they know. I don’t think people realize the amount of people you become friends with just based on your classes. People are placed in the courses they choose, but randomly put in classes throughout the day. I know personally that in many of my classes I was only close to a few people, which made me dread going every day.
In sophomore year I ended up in classes with people I barely knew. It’s like torture for me to have to sit next to someone I don’t know, because I tend to be social. I ended up getting placed next to Taylor Reiter in my tenth grade Spanish 2 class. I was honestly so nervous, because I knew of her, but had never talked to her before.
Throughout the first semester, I would get the courage to say a few things and we would chat a little bit, but nothing deep. By second semester, we ended up telling each other everything. Every day we would have to update each other on what we had done the day before. It would get to the point that i wouldn’t know what to do if she wasn’t in class that day.
Over the summer, we talked at least once a week and ranted about boys and life and everything else. This year we ended up having a class together again, and the alphabetical seating chart placed us right next to each other. I just find it crazy how I got a girl who I would call one of my best friends, just because of a random placement in the same class. This has taught me to make the best out of every situation and be open to new relationships with people because they could make huge impacts on your life.
This is just an example of one of my close friends that I have gained by meeting someone in one of my classes. It has happened to me I multiple classes throughout my life and i’m honestly so grateful for the people I don’t know in my classes. My goal is to meet new people every year and become friends with as many people as possible and being in a class with people i’m not already close to makes this a lot easier.
