One fourth of the way through my junior year of high school. Three fourths of a year left to see the seniors on a daily basis. One year left till I’m officially considered a senior. The only thing everyone can’t seem to get enough of is time, and the first quarter of this year did more than prove that.
The last 63 days opened a new beginning for so many. Sophomores endured the transition from junior high to high school, accepted their roles on bottom, eager for a fresh start in a new territory. Seniors had their last first day of school, and the final goodbyes began. As for juniors, the role of being stuck in the middle commenced, and the realization that it’s crunch time officially set in.
However, the real learning takes place outside of the doors that students spend 8 hours a day in. High school students get a taste of the real world, and while many yearn for additional amounts, others decide the taste is too much, and the idea of having anymore utterly frightens them. The ideal life is to stay young, to forever live in one’s golden years, and deal with as little responsibility as possible.
So, as new friendships form, seasons change, and memories are made, we seem to forget just how much occurs in such a short amount of time. To look on to the year ahead, and even think about what’s to come is a thought that is terrifying yet exceedingly refreshing. It’s an unimaginable thought, something that always keeps everyone on their toes. To live in the moment though, that’s something everyone should strive to do. Time is extremely fleeting, and sadly, is greatly abused. The idea of not savoring every second we’re given is simply unbearingly heartbreaking.
We’re only here for so long, and can only do so much. Soon enough, everyone graduates and has to accustom to the real world. So, next time you wish high school would end already, rethink that thought. The three years we’re given to discover ourselves are supposed to be the best ones of our lives. Don’t deny these years and hope they’ll end in the blink of an eye. Embrace the short time you have with your fellow classmates, and be a part of something bigger than the time spent inside a school. Live the days in high school out, and learn all you possibly can. It’ll all be over before you know it.
