In recent news, the Girl Scouts of America retweeted a tweet made by the Huffington Post, regarding who the 2013 Woman of the Year should be. Among that list was Democrat Wendy Davis, a Texas state senator, who made headlines when she held an 11-hour filibuster on June 25, 2013 to try to stop legislation that would ban abortions after 20 weeks.
Consequently, Pro-Life Waco, a group who according to their website, “is committed to ending abortion, its damaging effects among women, and promoting chastity,” has birthed the rebellion of the century, the CookieCott2014. Teaming up with fellow pro-life activists, this league of superheroes is out to bring down the Girl Scouts, who apparently are supporting abortions.
I don’t know how we didn’t see it coming. A group of 10-year-olds are obviously plotting to brainwash the entire population into backing abortions and loving every minute of it. And who better to be in the driver’s seat than Wendy Davis.
Nothing infuriates me more than people who use an organization that promotes self-confidence and good decision-making in girls as a way to publicly complain about whatever issues they don’t like. These girls are just trying to sell some delicious cookies and learn how to be decent people! They’re not out creating a political agenda and secretly backing politicians, they are selling cookies. They’re standing outside your local Walmart, not shouting about abortions, taxes, and social security, but attempting to lure you into buying Thin Mints, Tagalongs, and Do-Si-Does.
Can we just leave these poor girls alone and stop using them as a shield. If you want to bash someone or their beliefs, do it yourself. Don’t make up excuses and use a tweet that didn’t directly support anyone or any cause as a way to weasel your opinions to the surface.
