“It felt awesome because I was able to support FCA while doing what I love,” said junior Allison Kujawa.
The Fellowship of Christian Athletes presented the 2nd Annual Micayla Patterson Entertainment Showcase Jan. 28, which was held in the Performing Arts Center (PAC). Senior Cameron Netherton helped spread the word about the show to gather a crowd. While people were filing into the PAC, a video was streaming of FCA athletes giving their personal testimonies.
“I was a little nervous, but once my act started I relaxed and just pretended like I was at home practicing,” said senior Jacob Schumacher about being in the showcase.
A video of Chris and Becky Patterson played in which they shared memories of their daughter and of the day they found out Micayla died in a car accident on her way home from a John Mayer concert in Tulsa. Following the video, were 24 acts.
“It felt felt really good to be a part of something so good for the Pattersons,” said Netherton.
Each performer brought something new to the stage. Acts ranged from singing, playing the guitar, playing the piano, dancing, and even tap dancing. The performers not only included Har-Ber students but also students from Bentonville, Rogers and Fayetteville high schools and even one from junior high.
“I definitely want to see this continue. It’s important for her legacy and story to live on,” said Netherton.
After the acts were finished, another video played where the Patterson’s announced their adoption of baby Christopher. All of the acts came onto the stage and around the front lower level of the PAC and sang “Testify to Love” together as the finale.
“I think it’s good for them to start something new,” said Netherton. “I’m really happy for them.”
