“We stressed out about it because we all wanted to win so badly. We wanted to go to Nationals,” said senior Carley Knipe.
What do you think of when someone says star? A celebrity? A light in the sky at night? But when you say star to an FCCLA student, it has a whole new meaning.
“They’ve been preparing since before the beginning of school,” said Mrs. Libby Smith, FCCLA advisor.
For Family Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) students, STAR stands for Students Taking Action with Recognition. And on Dec 7 FCCLA students from all over Northwest Arkansas gathered together at the Jones Center to have FCCLA’s Region Competition to examine each school’s Chapter Showcase Manual.
Har-Ber’s seniors Ashlee Snow, Alina Anima and Carley Knipe received first place on Har-Ber’s Showcase Manual by keeping all of the FCCLA’s activities, budgets and community service activities organized and up to date. And junior Regina Reynolds received first place in Tech and Train, another category FCCLA competed in.
“You have to compete at Regional’s to go to state,” said Mrs. Smith.
Four FCCLA students are going to Stae in Conway, Arkansas in March and are hoping to accomplish more then they did at Regional Competition to be able to go on to National’s in Orlando, Florida.
