On Thursday April 28th Mrs. McGrew’s phsyics class went out to the to the football field launch their rockets.
“We started working on our rockets in class last week. The directions were pretty straightforward, even though ours failed, so it only took us about 2 class periods,” said senior Casey Kelly.
The groups constructed the rockets out of several different materials.
“We made them ourselves out of a kit which included cardboard, stickers and several other complex peices that had to be put together carefully,” Said senior Dawson Marquette.
However, though the construction appeared to be relatively simple, each rocket did not perform the same way.
“Ours failed,” Said Kelly. “We didn’t line up the two holes correctly.”
Marquette reported a different story with his and senior Casady Greens rocket, which they named “Lion.”
“It soared majestically through the clouds–then landed on the roof,” he said.
Aside from the fun, it was also an opportunity for the students to use some of the skills they have been learning all year.
“I hope they can learn to apply the steps we learned in class to real life,” Said Mrs. McGrew.
As this is the last project they will work on as a class together, many of the students agree this was a great way to finish off the year.
“It was a good way to end the year in physics,” said Marquette.
