While many teachers and faculty spent their Christmas break visiting family, across the country Mr. William Boyd instead traveled to a university in a town north of Nanning, China to help teach students English.
“At this particular university there were 1000 English majors,” said Mr. Boyd, “They love to have Americans come teach them English, and I think since I’m a teacher, they were happy to have me participate.”
Aside from this, Mr. Boyd also had the opportunity to enjoy Chinese culture with his family.
“I went with my wife, son, and daughter,” he said.
A huge part of his cultural experience in China occurred through the food.
“I ate squid for the first time. At first I didn’t really know what it was, I thought it was bean sprout or something, but it was very, very good,” said Mr. Boyd. “I also got a little better with using chopsticks.”
