Kodack Black Back Behind Bars

Imagine you’re living your dream. You make your own money, you help people out, you’re successful. Now, imagine you slip from your success, you make a mistake, and are now facing charges for drug possession & use, sexual battery, and attempting to run from law enforcements. This occurred to 19 year old South Florida rapper Dieuson Octave, or better known by his stage name, Kodak Black. Legal troubles slowly threaten the rapper on his upcoming state.

“I think weed should be legalized. A lot of people use it and it’s just realistic. The more people try to enforce it, the more ways people will find to hide it and use it regardless. Those who want to ban it should at least smoke a joint with me,” said Junior Cristal Velazquez.

Along with his arrest for carrying cannabis, J unior Rodolfo Barnett tells his view on the “justice” served.

“In a sense, maybe it was justice, because he got caught with that stuff, gun charges and rape; but at the same time, house arrest will do him good along with probation,” said Barnett.

As seen by the student body, Octave seems to be an influential artist, enough for people to want him on probation instead of jail.

“He just motivates people to come up from the economic state they’re in. I think a lot of people need some motivation in their lives,” said Velazquez.

“To me, it’s the music. It helped him buy a house for his mom, and that’s what I’ve always wanted to do, so that’s pretty influential. He used to live in the projects of Southern Florida, but coming up helped him buy himself and his mom a house,” said Barnett.

The music makes people understand different things. The fact that it is hip-hop narrows things down to certain topics: street violence, drug use in the projects, corruption, and loss.

“I can relate to it, it sounds kind of good, too,” shared Barnett

“His music inspires me to be a better thug. He speaks about relevant topics in today’s society and younger generation,” explains Velazquez.

Despite his explicit content, Kodak Black has a generic rapper’s’ flow, lyrical composition, and subliminal meaning in his songs. With another rapper like this coming up, what did we just lose?

“His good music, less stupid people on the streets; but most importantly his good music. He was on the cover of XXL magazine, which means he was about to blow up in the industry. We don’t gain much with him behind bars, nothing actually,” said Barnett

“Losing a very important upcoming rapper, he represents the young African-American males who live in the ghettos. His dream is to rise from the oppression of the daily struggle,” said Velazquez.

At the end of the day, there is an important rapper of the hip-hop community in jail, whose charges amount to 55 years of American imprisonment, but is put in a year of house arrest and 5 years of probation. Except, those plans didn’t last long before Broward Main Jail discovered two warrants of sexual battery on Octave, in South Carolina, as he was being released and put him deeper in his situation with the law, thus putting him back in jail for a longer time.
