Songs for every occassion

The bell rings, the car door closes, bedroom doors slam, and the music starts to weave an enchanting rhythm around whoever is listening. The wail of a broken-hearted girl is accompanied by the calming sound of her favorite song. A smile graces the face of the boy in love as their song comes on. A boy with no reason other than enjoyment jams out to his favorite guilty pleasures

“There is a perfect song for every situation,” said senior Michael Neil.

From your first love to your first breakup, everyone has a song that they listen to. When they hear it, the song reminds them of that moment. Songs make history. They make us remember the events that they are related to. Some, like Neil, think that there is a different song for each moment. Others, like senior Grace Sanford, think otherwise.

“For being in love, “Clumsy.” For a workout, “Fergalicious,” and for a breakup, “Big Girls Don’t Cry,” all by Fergie,” said Sanford.

The melodies of these momentous songs stick with us for a lifetime. Some people have one song or artist that they can listen to all the time. Others switch it up from time to time.

“Lana. I listen to her all the time,” said sophomore Andrew West.

There are songs for activities, and there are also songs for emotions. The most frequent emotions devoted to song topics are sadness, anger, and happiness.

“When I am sad I listen to country, and if I am mad then I listen to rap, and when I am happy, country,” said Neil.

Songs can express how a person feels without them saying anything. Fast songs make you want to get up and dance, slow songs make you want to just stop and listen. There are songs that can pump you up, and there are songs that can bring you down.

“When I workout I listen to mostly hip hop and rap,” said senior Alyssa Rocco.

The fast paced beat of the music helps Rocco match her workout pace and keep motivated.

Music can motivate us, it can cure sadness, it can calm us down. There is a song for every instance, every event. All you have to do is find it.
