Mockingjay – Part One, the third movie of the trilogy based on Suzanne Collins’ Hunger Games series, was released in theatres Nov. 20, and it was the best one yet.
As Katniss Everdeen, the main character, wakes up in a panicked haze, she finds herself in a District 13 hospital room. From the beginning of the movie to the last line, I was on edge and worried for the life of almost every character involved.
Katniss has become a symbol of hope to civilians of all districts except District One. Her image as the Mockingjay makes the entire movie revolve around her, which I love.
Jennifer Lawrence. She’s flawless. Her role as the protagonist of this trilogy and now the symbol of hope and rebellion against the capital to almost all of the districts could not have been more perfect. I love her in every movie she has been involved in, but I find that her role in the Hunger Games movies fits her personality perfectly. Katniss portrays a semi non-emotional person who believes what she believes and is not easily dissuaded. If you watch interviews of her or her interactions with other stars, you can see this type of personality come out. She’s a bold woman, and I feel like that fits the characteristics of Katniss very well.
In the past movies, there has been a debate between fan girls of either “Team Gale” or “Team Peeta”. I found that in this movie there was less of fight between boys and more of a fight to just be alive. The districts’ rebellions against the capital increase immensely during this movie as the Mockingjay leads the lower class citizens. With the rebellions, a war begins to erupt and every district is at risk. The cinematography throughout the movie is incredible. With so many action scenes, the film crew did a great job of not only making it look realistic, but moving the camera in ways to make it feel as if you were there.
Many fans were disappointed that the producers had split the final movie into two parts, worrying that the movies would not be as good. In my opinion, I strongly disagree. I think that it extends the greatness into another story, getting to watch one great movie now, and another, hopefully just as good, in 2015. Most movies that contain “Part One” in their title are expected to have a bad cliffhanger ending. In this case, I think it was very well filmed and directed, and it seemed like a complete and wonderful masterpiece. It wrapped itself up in the end, but still makes me want to see the next one as soon as I can. The final scene is shocking as well as intriguing. It pulls you into the emotional pull between characters and you want to see how their relationship continues.
