After a three-year hiatus, Fall Out Boy has come back into the music world with a bang. The group recently released their fifth studio album, on the Island Records label (Jessie J, Of Monsters and Men). Producing the album themselves along with fellow music producer Butch Walker (Taylor Swift, Gavin DeGraw), the American rock band rolled out their album April 16, and the album has debuted as the number one album in 27 countries.
The album, “Save Rock and Roll,” got its name from a remark by bassist Pete Wentz saying that the critics would comment that the band “came back to save rock and roll.” The album brings back their original, edgy sound, creating the perfect blend of pop and rock.
Their debut single, “My Songs Know What You Did in the Dark (Light Em Up)” is a fist-pumping, energetic beat that will have you dancing and singing along. A somewhat bolder move to share with the crowd, I was pleasantly surprised to find myself humming along and enjoying this self-righteous tune.
Moving down the tracks, “Young Volcanoes” will hit listeners from the very start with a series of harmonious claps and acoustic guitar, bringing a different beat to the rest of the album. While at first, it may be maddening and you might not want to hear anymore, its infectiousness grows after a few times on repeat.
For the grand finale, the title track, “Save Rock and Roll,” brings in music legend Elton John. It beautifully concludes a wonderful comeback to the music industry, bringing together an album full of fresh sounds and wonderful lyrics. Being a big Fall Out Boy enthusiast, I personally advise everyone to go out and listen to this album. It is a masterfully created work and I cannot wait to see what else they have up their sleeves.
