Written, produced, and directed by Tyler Perry, “Temptation: Confessions of a Marriage Counselor” explores the world of a forbidden desire and the effects it has on the lives of a married couple.
Judith (Jurnee Smollett) is married to her childhood sweetheart Brice (Lance Gross), who she’s known for 19 years. After 6 years of marriage, the couple moves to Washington D.C, where Judith gets a job as the in-house therapist at a match making company owned by Janice (Vanessa Williams). Judith is introduced to Harley (Robbie Jones), an extremely wealthy and attractive man who plans to invest in the company. The two begin an affair that will ultimately change the life of Judith forever.
Overall, while I enjoyed the movie, I did find it to be a bit predictable. For one, the plot in itself is cliché. If the title “Temptation” doesn’t give you a slight idea of what the movie is about, then I don’t know what does. As soon as Judith and Harley meet, the sexual tension is blatantly obvious and it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out that something is going to happen.
Both leading men are easy on the eyes and they help to alleviate the predictable story line. Kim Kardashian makes an appearance as Judith’s coworker Ava, and her bad acting is at its peak. I couldn’t take her character seriously and I felt it took away even more from the movie.
Being a fan of Tyler Perry’s films, like all of the Madea movies, I was disappointed in his newest one. For some, this movie might be enjoyable and some will find the plot twists exciting. But for me, I wish I could get my money back. “Temptation” will leave you feeling depressed and questioning the trust of your significant other, and I know now that I should probably never give into my temptations.
