It all started in his parents’ basement. Singer-songwriter Adam Young created his musical project, Owl City, in 2007 in Minnesota. In 2008, Young released his first studio album “Maybe I’m Dreaming”, which reached #13 on U.S. Billboard Electronic Albums.
Following the success of his first album, “Ocean Eyes” was released in 2009. The song “Fireflies” topped the charts, eventually becoming the 20th most downloaded song of all time. This album let Owl City fans see Young’s electronic-pop sound that he would stick with.
In 2011, Owl City announced its third album “All Things Bright and Beautiful.” While sticking with the synthpop, this album dabbles in the indie rock side of music. The first single “Alligator Sky” received major praise yet the album only sold 143,000 copies.
On August 17, Young released his latest studio album, “The Midsummer Station.” For the first time, he worked with other producers such as Stargate (Rhianna, Marina and the Diamonds) and Matthew Thiessen (Relient K, Switchfoot).
Turning to a darker side in this album, a different sound is created. While the other albums have an upbeat, “floating on clouds” appeal to them, “The Midsummer Station” leans toward the deeper, darker side of Adam Young.
While this new album takes on a new sound, it is very good and well put together! Go out and buy it!
