I laughed my butt off and I almost cried my eyes out. “Courageous” is a Christian movie that emphasizes the important role of a father in a child’s life.
The main characters are all Christians and involved in some type of Christian productions. The main actors include Alex Kendrick as Adam Mitchell, Ken Bevel as Nathan Hayes, Kevin Downes as Shane Fuller, Ben Davies as David Thomson. All four men are police men.
“Courageous” starts off with the four police men, Mitchell (Kendrick), Hayes (Bevel), Fuller (Downes) and Thomson (Davies) in the city of Albany, Georgia. All men are struggling with everyday life, fighting crime or trying to stay connected with their families, when the sheriff brings all of the police force into a meeting and reads off the statistics of children being in a home without a father around. You can tell that these statistics really bother each officer in their own way, but they do nothing to change it.
That is until Adam Mitchell(Kendrick)’s daughter dies in a drunk driver accident. After her death, the Mitchell (Kendrick) family is completely devastated and Adam starts to really become concerned with these statistics.
After this he becomes really devoted to understanding how to be a better husband, father and man of God. Adam (Kendrick) has his fellow police friends Hayes (Bevel), Fuller (Downes), Thomson (Davies) and the group’s newly added friend Javier Martinez (Robert Amaya) who is an immigrant looking for work, over for lunch at his house (something he does reguraly). Adam tells them all of his new “Resolution.”
Mitchell’s resolution is a way to keep himself in check with God and make sure that whenever he does something, it’s honoring to God. At first he asks his friends to just keep him accountable, but the rest of the gang decides to join too. Through the Resolution, the gang goes through goods and bads in their relationship with their jobs, family and the way they live their lives.
If you’re looking for a heart wrenching story about friendship, family and God, “Courageous” is definitely a movie you should consider watching. Bring your dad, step dad, grandfather or a man that has made a difference in your life, with you. And lots of tissues.
