Hundreds of years ago William Shakespeare wrote, “Romeo and Juliet,” a story about two star crossed lovers whose fates were sealed with despair.
Now, in 2011, creator Kelly Asbury has taken the famous play and turned it into a film about two gnomes in love, a red and a blue, whose love is forbidden due to their feuding owners and family.
With action filled lawn mower races and plenty of laugh-out-loud moments, this movie is perfect for a night out with the family. It even has a few laughs for adults and teenagers with its innuendos that a younger audience wouldn’t understand.
When the owners leave for the day, the garden gnomes come alive going about their everyday routine. Gnomeo, blue, and Juliet, red, sneak off into an abandoned garden to be with each other.
While there, they meet a Latin plastic flamingo that teaches the two gnomes that thay shouldn’t care about their color, just their love for one another.
Along with its great comedy, romance, and action, “Gnomeo and Juliet” contains a superb soundtrack.
Elton John is the executive producer and his music on the film includes a little bit of hip hop and some old school rock.
The movie doesn’t exactly follow the original storyline from “Romeo and Juliet,” but Shakespeare does appear in the film, (in statue form), to tell Gnomeo that his love for Juliet, like in the original play, will end in doom.
“Gnomeo and Juliet” is a well suited choice for a group looking for a movie filled with good laughs and romance.
