Angus and Julia Stone, a brother-sister duo from Newport, Australia, first began making music in 2006 when they released their first EP. Since then, they have put out five EPs and two full albums all showcasing the independent voices of the two siblings.
Both Angus and Julia’s voice are quite unique. While Julia has a distinctively delicate and beautiful voice, Angus’ voice is soothing and compliments Julia’s voice to perfection. The duo is interesting in the way their voices combine to make great modern folk music.
Their most recent album, “Down the Way,” showcases brother and sister separately. While in one song Julia leads and Angus harmonizes, in the next song the musicians switch to do the exact opposite. The two take turns telling personal stories and singing intimate lyrics.
The two blend well thoughout songs where both brother and sister get their own spotlight. Easy listening has normally carried a negative connotation with those listeners in my age group, but Angus and Julia Stone contradict this. Their music is easy to fall in love with.
